At Golden Path, we’re always gathering feedback on our products and services, including how our audiences use our information in their day-to-day lives. We recently surveyed more than 20 high school students who use Career Profiles in our online platform Compass.

What did we learn?

Overall, students find Career Profiles to be very valuable. They report using them to browse for general career information, learn about unfamiliar careers, and look up specific careers. They tend to start with a career first and then learn more about the employer.

Students also said the most relevant Career Profiles sections are salary and benefits, role summary, education requirements, day in the life, and high school experiences that can prepare them for their future careers.  They were also curious about job security, work culture, company policies, hiring processes, and roadmaps to success. All of this is information that we currently gather and topics our employers may want to focus on when updating a Compass employer profile or creating a Career Profile (available to employers who have an Awareness Membership or higher.)

How can we make Career Profiles even more useful?

Students indicated they would like more integrated media such as photos and short video interviews with employers. These videos don’t need to be over-produced. For example, a one-minute video could feature a team member introducing themselves and sharing what makes the employer unique.

The survey also revealed that students want clear connections from Career Profiles to employers and related college programs. We already facilitate this by having all of these components in one system and we’re always looking for ways to enhance those connections.

As a result of this feedback, we will be refreshing the format of Career Profiles in Compass. We’ll also provide employers with best practices for creating short videos about their organization to feature in Career Profiles and share via social media.

All of these changes will make Career Profiles even more compelling for students and make it easier for them to find the information they need.
