Happy holidays from the team at Golden Path Solutions! We’re excited to share our recent involvement at events around the region, including career fairs and teacher trainings. We’re also highlighting local manufacturers in a new website partnership and are eager to help grow the manufacturing workforce while connecting college students and adults with meaningful careers. Finally, we encourage employers to become Golden Path Solutions members today and reach even more students. There’s a lot to celebrate as we wrap up the calendar year.

Reaching More Students at Career Fairs

November proved to be a great month for connecting students and employers through career fairs. We participated in several across North Dakota, including the North Valley Career Expo, the Williston Career Fair, and the Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo in Fargo. Attending career fairs allows us to introduce Compass to more people and also witness firsthand the power of networking and introductions. We know many of you feel the same way.

“I love seeing the great connections made between employers and students at our career fairs,” said Haley Jeanotte, Career Counselor in Williston, ND. “We definitely want to keep building on this and find even more effective ways of connecting students to employers that have the careers our students will thrive in!”

We can help with that! Compass can help employers build meaningful connections with students before, during, and after career fairs. Sharing new work-based learning opportunities before a career fair and making it easy to apply for a position during a fair are just a couple of ways to reach students. Read our recent blog post Seven Tips for Employers as You Prepare for a Career Fair for more great ways to make the most of these important events.

Watch the New Student and Teacher Videos for Compass and RUReady

One thing we see in our work is how busy everyone is and how little time they have. The more we can do to make things easier for our students and teachers, the better. We’ve created a series of short videos that walk people through different processes related to setting up Compass, work-based learning, and using the system we’ve built. Students in North Dakota can learn about how to set up Compass and apply for and track work-based learning opportunities, and teachers can see videos walking them through all the benefits of Compass. We’re working on more videos. Follow our YouTube channel for more information.

More Trainings and Workshops Mean More Student-Employer Connections

Every time we host a teacher training or Compass workshop, we know it ultimately leads to more students using Compass and finding excellent opportunities at companies in North Dakota and Minnesota. How exciting is that?

In November, we connected with Bismarck (ND) Public Schools teachers and counselors through an RUReady workshop, work-based learning coordinator training, and a Compass meeting for counselors. In the same month, we also met with Fargo (ND) South High School healthcare students and held Compass trainings for Detroit Lakes (MN) Public Schools teachers and counselors. December brings RUReady workshops in Dickinson and Williston, both ND, as well as Compass rollouts in Grand Forks (ND) Public Schools.

Local Manufacturers to be Featured in New Workforce Website

We’re wrapping up our first round of career profiles for local manufacturing companies, which will be featured in a new industry-focused website launching next year. The project is a partnership of the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corp. (GFMEDC), Be More Colorful, and Golden Path Solutions. It is made possible through the North Dakota Workforce Innovation Grant (NDWIG), designed to empower locally-led solutions and innovation to address North Dakota’s workforce challenges post-pandemic.

The new website will feature detailed information about local manufacturing companies and integrate with Compass, providing valuable tools for college students and adults interested in manufacturing. The site will include Compass career profiles that will come to life through virtual reality (VR) videos created by Be More Colorful. We also hope to make these manufacturing career profiles available to high school students at a later date. We’ll let you know when the new site launches.
