It’s an eventful spring at Golden Path and we’re thrilled to have you here!

We kicked off the season by completing our Compass community solution in partnership with our first community, Watford City, ND. This new capability of Compass allows communities like Watford City to highlight their amenities, feature local employers, and highlight critical careers – all on one community page. The goal is to help people outside of the region understand what a community like Watford City has to offer and the incentives they’re providing, hihlighting available opportunities.

With this new feature comes the ability for college students and adults to create accounts in Compass. We will launch these user accounts for other opportunities and communities after we’ve gained valuable insight from the Watford City project.

We’re excited to continue expanding how Compass can help make connections, building on our core work of helping students and employers connect with work-based learning, career exploration and sponsorships, with new features helping all of our audiences find each other more effectively!

New Compass pages available

The latest Compass release included an improved student home page and a new employer page. The student homepage enables students to navigate to their profile, results, opportunities, and activities from one location. It also features a profile status graphic and alerts for opportunities and activities. The new design corresponds to the mobile app, now available in the Google Play and Apple App Store.

Aditionally, Compass’ new employer page provides a one-stop location for an employer’s information and all offered opportunities. It’s a great way to highlight each company, work culture, careers, and more. It is especially helpful for students interested in learning about particular employers. They can see other careers at that company, as well as experiences available to schools and students.

Welcoming new employers to the platform

We welcomed several new employers to Compass, including Marsh McClennan, PepsiCo, and Goldmark, all in Fargo; Leon’s Building Center in Park River, ND; AmeriCorps in Bismarck, ND; Neff Repair Shop in Turtle Lake, ND;  5-Star Collision & Glass Center in Grand Forks, ND; and Valley Truck Parts & Service Inc. in East Grand Forks, MN; Elite Cabinets and Homestead Physical Therapy, both in Watford City, ND; and Rapat Corporation in Hawley, MN. We continue to have great representation of companies across the region and a wide variety of industries for students to explore.

Developing new features for Compass

We’re always looking into new ways Compass can better serve all of you. Currently, we’re working with school administrators about how Compass can help manage students’ Four-Year Rolling Plans (also called Personalized Learning Plans). Students already use Compass to track their classes for career exploration but could soon use that same feature to track classes toward graduation. This would lead to more students actively engaged in Compass and more opportunties for them to make employer connections.

Next, we’re teaming up with several regional post-secondary schools for a Compass college pilot program. By featuring college programs in Compass, we could better connect degrees, majors, and certifications to employers and careers, particularly with sponsorships. This new Compass feature would provide students with more guidance in their career exploration, help employers highlight schools with the training that best works for their employees, and offer another way for schools to promote their programs.

Finally, we’re working with North Dakota transition specialists to find ways Compass can support students with special needs as they prepare for their future career.  We are looking into ways we can help employers provide opportunities and reach transition students who are interested in their company and careers.

Building connections at career professional workshops

Golden Path team members will be at the NDCTE Career Resource Network Spring Workshops this month to meet with North Dakota educators, career professionals, and employers. The in-service training will be offered April 9-25 at six locations across the state. We will also present at the trainings, which feature information about education and career opportunities in each region.

Golden Path presenting at workforce conference

The GrowND: Workforce Solutions Showcase April 23 in Bismarck features 11 sessions on workforce development, including a presentation by Golden Path CEO/Founder Patrick Mineer. This new three-hour Greater North Dakota Chamber (GNDC) event is a rapid-fire introduction to current opportunities available to businesses in the state. The 10-minute presentations will be followed by a social hour. Speakers will be available at resource tables to provide more information.
