The year is off to a great start and we’re looking forward to all the ways Golden Path and Compass can support you.

One of the most exciting offerings through Compass is work-based learning experiences (WBL). These career-focused opportunities include everything from internships and co-ops to summer jobs, mentorships, and apprenticeships. They are easy to advertise and coordinate through Compass, connecting students with employers in a partnership that is beneficial for both career exploration and workforce development. To learn more about work-based learning, watch the “Work-Based Learning as a Talent Pipeline” webinar.

We’re becoming a trusted resource for the WBL model and we have you to thank. We’ll be presenting at the GrowND: Workforce Solutions Showcase April 23 in Bismarck, ND, and at the ACTE’s Work-Based Learning Conference May 1-3 in Milwaukee, WI, a gathering of work-based learning professionals from across the country. We’re also meeting with more local communities – including Thief River Falls and Perham in Minnesota and Hettinger in North Dakota –  to help them foster WBL opportunities between their local employers and schools. North Dakota’s State Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director Wayde Sick is speaking about WBLs at an upcoming policy event hosted by the Greater North Dakota Chamber. And finally, more North Dakota communities are starting to invest in liaisons between schools and employers, as they understand the benefits to all parties.

North Dakota receives up to $160 million for FARMS project

Five North Dakota entities, including North Dakota State University in Fargo, recently received a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant of up to $160 million over 10 years to expand economic opportunities and programs in agriculture technology – and Golden Path Solutions is proud to be a supporting partner. We will be working closely with the coalition to drive WBL opportunities and Career Profiles related to agriculture technology and get those opportunities in front of students. Check out the new mobile app and Compass Console

The new Compass app will be available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store this month. Designed for students, the app enables users to quickly update their profiles, view WBLs and Career Profiles, keep in touch with employers, and receive notifications. It’s a great way for employers and students to stay connected.

Also new this month is the Compass Console for North Dakota school professionals in RUReady.nd.gov. The console gives teachers, counselors, and coordinators access to student profiles and the ability to track their progress in Compass. It’s a one-stop location for better monitoring students’ career exploration and WBL experiences, and also to help manage the students’ four-year rolling plans (as some schools are using Compass to do).

Community pages available soon in Compass

Soon communities will be able to showcase themselves to students and other audiences within Compass. We hope that by matching a student to not just a career but an employer and a community, we can help drive value for all. Watford City, ND, will be the first community within Compass later this month, followed by Fargo-Moorhead and its manufacturing initiative later this spring.

Watch the new Compass user videos

Be sure to subscribe to the Golden Path Solutions YouTube Channel for access to videos designed to make Compass even easier to use. In addition to how-to videos for employers, students, and school professionals, the channel also features a video for managing WBL experiences and applications. Give us a like!

New employers joining the ecosystem

We’re always excited to see more companies connecting with schools and students through Compass by building Career Profiles, offering WBLs, and sharing contact information. We are proud to welcome new Career Profiles from Butler Machinery, Acme Tools, Wallwork Trucking, Cash-Wa, GPK Product, Hess, Bobcat, and Leon’s Building Center, and new WBLS from the Williston Basin International Airport, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Live in Motion, Messer Dental, and Fastenal – just to name a few!
