Happy October from Golden Path!
As we settle into fall, it’s a good time to look over all that has already happened this school year – from welcoming new employers and students into Compass to presenting at and attending several key events. Read this month’s newsletter for more information on what’s new in Compass, how we’re supporting students and employers with Sponsorships and Placements, and how an internship found through Golden Path changed the career plans for a Jamestown (ND) High School senior.
Here’s what’s new for October 2024:
Welcome to new students in Compass
More than 2,000 new students from across the region created profiles in Compass last month. We’re excited to welcome these students to the platform and look forward to helping them find engaging career exploration experiences, including work-based learning opportunities.
Nearly 100 students have provided consent for Golden Path to use their profile information to connect them with employers. Another 150 students are just waiting for approval from their guardians. This consent process in Compass enables us to personally match students with employer opportunities such as Scholarships and Placements, or reach out to students to review opportunities for internships and other experiences they may not have found on their own in Compass. Students can start the consent process by selecting “yes” to “Connect me with employers” in Compass.
Park ranger internship inspires outdoor career plans
An eight-week park ranger internship at Icelandic State Park in Cavalier, ND, was just what Jamestown High School senior Olivia Maulding needed to further explore and confirm her interest in outdoor careers.
Maulding, now a freshman majoring in crop and weed science at North Dakota State University in Fargo, says the internship found through Golden Path Solutions was more than enforcing park rules, stacking firewood, and cleaning fire pits. It was an opportunity to step out on her own, assume more responsibility, and help define her future career plans.
“Working at the park showed me that I really love the outdoors and that finding a career in nature would be best for me,” Maulding says. “It solidified my choice to work outside. Being outdoors is just more breathable to me.”

New employers and Career Profiles added to Compass
Compass continues to grow and expand with new organizations and Career Profiles in Compass. We recently welcomed the following employers: Allied Fire Protection in Fargo; Dietrich Construction in Fargo; and North Dakota Department of Health & Human Services in Bismarck, ND. New Career Profiles include Direct Support Professional at Hit, Inc., in Mandan, ND; Apprentice Electrician at Bergstrom Electric offices in Minnesota and North Dakota; Millwright Specialist at Anchor Mechanical in Cummings, ND; Machine Operator at TrueNorth Steel in Fargo; Service Technician at Swanston Equipment in Fargo; Operator Technician at Harvestone Low Carbon Partners in Bismarck; and Quality Control Specialist and Operator at Aldevron in Fargo.
Exploring Compass for college students
We’re exploring how to add value for different audiences with the employer, college, and community information in Compass. With that, we are looking into opening Compass to college students. We know that college students can greatly benefit from learning about local organizations and opportunities. It would also be helpful if high school students could transition their Compass student profiles into their college years to help prepare for their futures. In addition, we want to work seamlessly with systems that college students currently use, including Handshake for work-based learning.
Thanks to our college pilot program, Compass already features programs from five regional postsecondary schools and matches those programs with related careers and employers. Adding college students to the platform is the next step in elevating these connections.

Securing jobs with Sponsorships and Placements
Golden Path Solutions is now actively matching students with employers for jobs following graduation through Sponsorships and Placements.
Sponsorships are an excellent option for students who are looking for help with their postsecondary tuition and employers who are looking for skilled and educated future employees. In these partnerships, employers cover part or all of a student’s schooling costs in exchange for a signed work agreement to work for the company for a set amount of time.
With Placements, Golden Path professionals actively match qualified, job-seeking students with open positions at our partner employers. We work hand-in-hand with students to guide them through the application and interview process.
For both services, our professionals regularly check in with students during their first six months of employment. Contact us to learn more or get started today.
Share your events with us
Be sure to add your events to our new events calendar. From school career fairs to conferences, workshops, and expos, these events build connections between schools and employers – and now they’ll be easy for you to find and attend. Please submit your events to events@goldenpath.net. Watch future communications for when and where the events calendar will be available.
