This fall, Compass is showing up in more places and in more ways. Students are getting hands-on training, employers are building work-based learning connections, colleges are making access easier, and schools are using new tools to make career events more meaningful.
Here’s a look at what’s new and what’s coming up next:
Golden Path expands chamber partnerships to Bismarck-Mandan
We’re continuing to grow our regional workforce partnerships with a new collaboration with the Bismarck Mandan Chamber EDC. Together, we’re helping employers build and retain future workforce while creating more opportunities for students to gain meaningful career experiences and connect with businesses in their community.
Bismarck-Mandan Chamber members can now get started with a free Golden Path Basic Membership and use Compass to connect with students from middle school through college. Employers can highlight their company, share internships and other work-based learning opportunities, and begin building relationships with future talent. Chamber members can also upgrade their membership to expand their reach, promote careers, access employer insights and marketing resources, and receive personalized strategy support.

Bloomington Public Schools extends employer connections with Compass
A career event can open the door to a student-employer connection. Bloomington Public Schools is using Compass to help keep that connection going.
As part of its second annual Industry and Innovation Day, the district is incorporating Compass to help participating employers connect with students before, during, and after the event. Employers will showcase technical and high-demand careers through hands-on demonstrations at John F. Kennedy High School and Thomas Jefferson High School.
Through Compass, employers can highlight their companies and careers, share work-based learning opportunities, and tell schools how they’d like to engage with students in the future. Students can connect with participating companies before Industry and Innovation Day, and those relationships can continue well beyond the event. It’s a great example of how schools can use Compass to turn career exploration events into ongoing opportunities for students and employers to connect.
Upcoming webinar: Put your Compass data to work
Employers, your Compass data can tell you more than how many students clicked or viewed your content. It can help you understand where students are showing interest, what’s getting attention, and where you have opportunities to build stronger connections.
Join us at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, for our free, one-hour Get Started with Compass Dashboard webinar.
We’ll walk through the Dashboard and show you how to turn your data into action. Learn how to understand student engagement with your company and careers, identify which schools are engaging with your content, and evaluate what could use more visibility. Then, we’ll help you use those insights to guide your next steps in building connections with schools and students.
Easy access to Compass soon available for NDUS students
Students across the North Dakota University System will soon have easy access to Compass. Thanks to single sign-on, students will access Compass directly through Campus Connection, the academic and financial services portal they already use. This will make career exploration, internships, employer connections, and other Compass resources more accessible within students’ existing college experience.
The new single sign-on is another step forward in our work with NDUS to connect college students with career opportunities and employers across the state. Through a Strategic Impact and Innovation Grant, Compass is available to students across all 11 NDUS institutions and five state tribal colleges, helping colleges promote programs and opportunities, while giving employers another way to connect with future talent as students prepare to enter the workforce.

Work-based learning made easier for employers
Interested in connecting with students through work-based learning, but not sure what makes sense for your organization or how to get started?
Two upcoming virtual working sessions will give employers practical, individualized help identifying opportunities, working through questions or barriers, using Compass, and creating experiences that fit their workforce needs and capacity.
Hosted by Golden Path Solutions, the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce, Moorhead Area Public Schools, and Cass County Career and Technical Education Center, the sessions are part of a region-wide effort to expand work-based learning. Bring your questions and get hands-on help with your next steps.
Register for one of two sessions:
Whether you’re exploring work-based learning for the first time or strengthening what you already offer, you’ll leave with a clearer path to connecting with students and investing in your future workforce.
Helping students get started in Compass
Students are getting hands-on with Compass this fall as we visit schools to help them explore employers, careers, college programs, and future opportunities. These training sessions give students time to build their profiles, learn how to navigate Compass, and start making connections between their interests and what comes next.
Most recently, we worked with ninth graders at Detroit Lakes High School to get them started in Compass. Many thanks to Vern Schnathorst and Aaron Swenson for coordinating the day and helping create a great experience for students!
Make more connections with new event features in Compass
New event functionality in Compass is helping schools, employers, and students get more from career fairs and other in-person events. Schools can now manage employer registrations in Compass and give students information to prepare before an event, make meaningful connections while they’re there, and follow up afterward.
With the new functionality:
- Schools can publish events directly to employers.
- Schools can manage employer registrations, including time slots, capacity, and event-specific questions.
- Employers can register, request a time slot, indicate careers they want to feature, and provide links to their organization’s information.
- Students can view participating employers, including those they match with in Compass, mark employers as favorites or ones they want to visit, and click through to learn more.
- Schools can add employers that haven’t registered themselves or aren’t in Compass yet.
- Students can follow up with employers after the event.
- Employers can view Compass activity data following the event.
By connecting event participation with the career and employer information already available in Compass, a single in-person interaction can become the beginning of a longer-term connection.
