Summer is the perfect time to make a few simple updates to your Compass account to ensure it’s ready for students to explore next fall.
All of these updates are optional, but we encourage you to spend a few minutes in your account to verify information, add new opportunities, and ensure you’re taking advantage of the benefits of your Golden Path membership.
Here are five easy updates for your Compass account:
1. Update your employer profile page
Your employer profile page is shared with school professionals across the region. If you have a paid employer membership or you post a work-based learning opportunity, it’s also shared with students.
Log in to Compass and select the pencil icon near your employer name to get started. These items take just a few minutes to update:
- Contact list: Remove company contacts who have left, add new ones, and ensure your primary contact is correct. The primary contact is shared with schools.
- Connections Database options: Review the checklist and mark which opportunities you are interested in. We have new opportunities, including working with students who have job coaches or working with justice-involved students.
- Careers at your company: Select up to 10 careers in Compass that your business needs. These listed careers help everything connect in Compass – careers, work-based learning, college programs, and more. It’s also how students are matched with your company and careers, based on their student profile results. Don’t miss this step!
- New fields: We now offer fields for a company tagline and your company careers page.
- Media, links, and more: Add short videos, photos, social media links, company culture information, and more to build up your profile.
2. Update your Career Profiles
If you have a paid membership, you can offer Career Profiles in Compass. These key features help students learn about your careers while they are still making decisions about their futures. Add new Career Profiles this summer or use the time to review details like salary and benefits, add links to relevant information like Sponsorships or programs, and add more images. Go to Opportunities >> Career Profiles and click on each of your profiles to edit.
Please reach out if you have a paid membership and would like help refreshing your Career Profiles!
3. Add opportunities, like work-based learning
It only takes a few minutes to add opportunities to Compass, including work-based learning, job shadows, and events. Here’s how:
- Job shadows: These 2-3-hour, one-time experiences give students a feel for what it’s like to work at your company and the types of roles you hire. It’s a low-commitment way to build engagement and meet students whom you might be interested in hiring for work-based learning. You can create these in Compass under Opportunities >> Create New. Choose Job Shadow under Type of Work-Based Learning. You can also check the box for Job Shadow in the Connections Database.
- Work-based learning: These experiences include everything from internships and pre-apprenticeships to part-time jobs. They are hands-on career experiences that also earn students academic credit. You can offer your WBLs and manage them completely within Compass, keeping everything from agreements to time tracking online. You can create your WBLS at Opportunities >> Work-Based Learning Opportunities >> Create New. Select the schools you’d like to work with, the dates of the WBL experience, the dates to publish it in Compass, and more. Please contact us if you have questions.
- Events: You can publish events to schools or students, including career fairs or special events at your company. Go to Opportunities >> Events.
4. Connect with college students
If you are also interested in connecting with college students, you can easily share your opportunities with them as well. For Career Profiles, work-based learning, job shadows, and events, you can simply also check College Students under Audience.
5. Renew or upgrade your membership
Watch for upcoming information about membership renewals and updates. First, we’re aligning our memberships to the school year, Aug. 1-July 31, and prorating based on when an employer becomes a member. Second, we are adding new benefits to our memberships, including AI-powered features to help create Career Profiles, insights for employers on school activity (including what schools you should target depending on the skills you’re looking for), more information about events, and finally, a recommendation engine to help you optimize your Compass account for student and school connections. Watch your inbox for more information in July.
