If you want to see the strength and talents of our future workforce first hand, attend and judge a DECA collegiate competition! I had the opportunity to do just that as I participated as a judge in the collegiate competition held in Fargo, ND the last week of March.

For those of you who don’t know, North Dakota DECA was chartered in 1953 and was organized around one ambition goal: to improve educational and career opportunities for students.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges in North Dakota and across the Globe. You can learn more about the North Dakota DECA chapter HERE

I have to say, I was totally inspired by the presentations from these young professionals and selecting a winner from the group was no easy task. There were individual and team competitions, all with great presentations on topics that ranged from how to bring a new product to market to how to handle the relocation of a company and best treat long term employees.  Real world situations that I’ve come across during my career!

After much deliberation, I’m excited to congratulate Minot State and NDSU chapter members who excelled at the 2021 Collegiate DECA Conference and will be moving on to the next level.

While only a few teams will move on, I think everyone who participated feels they gained from the experience. Congratulations to the winning teams and everyone who participated in this quality event.

On another note, I was so impressed that I signed up to be a judge for the international competition!

Thanks to Kevin Reisenauer from the North Dakota Career & Tech Ed group for inviting us.
