As a busy employer, your time and energy are valuable.
That’s why, when it comes to your future workforce development, we ensure that our application Compass complements your existing workforce development strategy. Compass shares your company and careers with a broader audience, helps meet your unique needs and those of our student and school audiences, and is easy for all parties to use.
If you’re unsure how we connect you with your future workforce, or how our application Compass compares to other platforms like Handshake and LinkedIn, check out this month’s employer blog post. We’re exploring how Compass complements other solutions, how we’re extending the audiences you connect to, and providing tips for using Compass to engage with your future workforce.
More than just a job board: Creating connections across the whole picture
Numerous platforms provide connections for employers, careers, and job seekers, but Compass is uniquely positioned to support students, school professionals, colleges, and employers across the bigger picture.
First, we engage students as early as middle school in career exploration and support them all the way to their first career role. Thanks to the Compass student profile, students can use their classes, activities, hobbies, interests, and personality assessment results to uncover and explore key information about themselves and how they fit with potential careers.
In Compass, students are proactively matched to real regional employers, careers, and work-based learning experiences, as well as related colleges and programs of study. They can see how their skills and interests could lead them to a job shadow or an internship, for example, and then a postsecondary major or certification (or hands-on job training), tuition reimbursement programs, and finally a full-time career – even with an employer they’ve been in contact with the entire time!
By building your profile in Compass and highlighting one or two careers, you can tell students what classes, activities, and hobbies might indicate they’re a great fit for your future careers, or even help give them a roadmap on how to get there. You can imagine how much that insight can help students understand what they need to do to prepare for their future careers.
We’re helping students develop long-term plans for their futures (all at their own pace) and connecting them with essential organizations along the way.
Second, we emphasize what it takes to get started in a career, not simply finding a job. LinkedIn, Monster, and Indeed allow companies to advertise jobs, but Compass isn’t a job board. Instead, we help employers drive student interest in careers for their futures.
While Handshake fosters college internship matches, Compass complements that work by helping students connect with careers and determine a path, including students who aren’t yet ready for an internship. Our system helps students figure out what college major makes the most sense based on their skills and interests, and sets them up for success with a Handshake internship or other connection. Of course, there are other ways to connect with students beyond internships, including school simulations, mentorship opportunities, and more.
Compass provides both high school and a growing number of college students with details about what it takes to be successful in particular careers, including high school classes and work-based learning experiences, skills, postsecondary education, training, internships, and more. Our Career Profiles help students picture themselves in those careers and uncover the steps needed to get there.
We’re not advertising jobs to be filled in the next two weeks. We’re creating a talent pipeline for one to three years from now, while supporting those students during the entire stretch.
Making Compass easy to use: You don’t need more to manage
Compass is a one-stop shop for building connections between employers and schools. You can build your employer profile, Career Profiles, work-based learning opportunities, and more, all within one platform, and then share that information with the schools of your choice. You don’t need to keep track of different school systems, waste time trying to find school contacts, or try to find school events you might be interested in online. It’s all in Compass for you.
Minnesota students access your information directly via Compass, while North Dakota students all access Compass through RUReadyND. You can also share your Compass employer information, events, and Career Profiles with students and teachers who are not yet in Compass, thanks to our open URLs. (These are perfect for sharing opportunities via your social media accounts!) We’re always improving our integrations with other software to improve the experience for employers, students, and school professionals.
Finally, we’re marketing your company and opportunities for you through everything from our newsletter and social media accounts to targeted emails to parents, students, and school professionals. It’s important to us that others learn about who you are and what you have to offer.
